Professional development of University teachers for GenAI competencies: Framework and tools

GenAI exhibits advanced cognitive capabilities that is reshaping Higher Education paradigms. The resulting shifts in epistemological foundations, interaction modes, and teachers’ roles have brought about fundamental changes in how higher education organises its curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment. Thus, it is imperative for universities to strengthen teachers' GenAI competencies.

Our team will present a GenAI-Responsive Competency Framework for University Teachers. This Framework consists of four dimensions, two perspectives, and three levels. The Framework adopts a cross-cutting view of Higher Education development and offers a comprehensive approach to preparing university teachers for the realities presented by GenAI. Complementing the Framework, the team has developed a self-assessment tool for teachers and a Gen-AI enabled professional learning app.

This session offers Higher Education leaders and professional development specialists with opportunities to reflect on existing professional development strategies, and provides them with insights into how teachers could be empowered to manage their own professional learning.
