From classroom to community: Building employable changemakers through sustainable entrepreneurship

This session explores how sustainability and social entrepreneurship can transform classroom learning into meaningful community and industry experiences. Designed for educators, academic leaders, TVET, and Higher Education professionals, the session showcases practical initiatives where students address real-world challenges through entrepreneurship, sustainability, technology and community engagement.

Drawing on examples including student-led sustainable business projects, food waste initiatives, digital inclusion, AI learning, upcycling and industry collaborations, the session demonstrates how experiential learning develops creativity, problem-solving, teamwork, communication and entrepreneurial thinking.

Participants will learn how to integrate sustainability and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into teaching, build effective partnerships with industry and community organisations, and create authentic learning opportunities beyond the classroom. Attendees will leave with practical ideas for designing student-centred initiatives that generate measurable community impact while strengthening employability, entrepreneurial confidence and future-ready skills.
