Beyond screen time: Digital maturity, AI, and human attention

As technology becomes increasingly personalised, persuasive and AI-driven, traditional conversations about screen time are no longer enough.

This interactive session brings together a school leader, a neuroscientist, and student voices to explore how digital environments shape attention, behaviour, learning, and decision-making. Through demonstrations, learner perspectives, and practical school examples, attendees will examine the cognitive impact of distraction, the opportunities and risks of AI, data privacy, safeguarding, and digital culture.

Designed for school leaders, educators and policy makers, the session introduces the concept of digital maturity as a framework for helping young people navigate technology intentionally rather than reactively.

Participants will leave with practical strategies for strengthening attention, supporting healthy AI use, reviewing safeguarding approaches and building a coherent digital culture that promotes human judgement, agency and cognitive resilience.
