Gerson Abesamis
Director (Bureau of Learning Delivery) Department of Education (Philippines)
Gerson Abesamis is an educator and designer who brings a human-centered approach to learning. He is the Director of the Bureau of Learning Delivery at the Department of Education, leading efforts to translate curriculum into learning experiences. His bureau aims to develop an ecosystem of support for the almost 1 million teachers in the Philippines, including lessons, toolkits, pedagogical models, enabling policies, and instructional supervision.
Before DepEd, he was the Executive Director of Habi Education Lab, a learning design studio. He also taught design and innovation at Philippine Science High School and Raya, and EdTech at UP College of Education and Miriam College. Beyond the classroom, Gerson worked as a designer for Pearson New York, Technicolor London, and PwC London.
He has been recognized as a fellow in the WISE Qatar Emerging Leaders Programme and the Obama Foundation’s Asia Pacific Leaders Programme. He holds a BA in Film from the University of the Philippines and a Master’s in Technology, Innovation, and Education from Harvard University.
