Dr Azmir Yunus

Head of National TVET Council Secretariat Prime Minister’s Department (Malaysia)

Dr Azmir Yunus is the Head of the National TVET Council Secretariat at the Prime Minister’s Department, Malaysia, where he supports the coordination and transformation of the country’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) ecosystem.

With nearly three decades of experience in TVET, he has served in roles spanning vocational training, institutional leadership, skills development and national policy coordination. His work has involved close engagement with industry to strengthen the alignment between skills development and evolving workforce needs. 

He is currently involved in advancing TVET 2.0, Malaysia’s national transformation agenda for TVET, which focuses on expanding industry and workplace-based learning, promoting lifelong upskilling and reskilling, developing advanced skills for emerging technologies, and strengthening industry participation in skills development. 

His current areas of interest include improving the transition from training to employment, developing industry-responsive talent pipelines, strengthening outcomes from public investment in skills, and preparing Malaysia’s workforce for technological and industrial transformation. 

Dr Azmir holds a PhD in Technical and Vocational Education, a Master’s degree in Instructional Technology, and a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering.
