Supporting girls to thrive in AI and STEM
This student-led session explores how schools can better support girls and young people in AI, STEM, and technology beyond traditional classroom learning.
Drawing from the experiences of Y:WAIT (Young Women in AI and Technology), the session will highlight what students genuinely need from educators: earlier exposure to opportunities, mentorship, confidence-building environments, and support for youth-led initiatives.
Speakers will share practical examples of how young people started programmes, hackathons and communities despite limited school support, alongside reflections on what teachers did that truly made a difference. The session is aimed at K12 educators, school leaders, and EdTech stakeholders looking to better engage students in emerging technologies.
Attendees will gain actionable insights into creating more inclusive innovation spaces, supporting student agency, and preparing young people for a future shaped by AI and technology.
