Mathematics learning through Minecraft Education Digital Storytelling (MEDS)

This session introduces the Minecraft Education Digital Storytelling (MEDS) Module, a research-developed instructional module that integrates game-based learning, digital storytelling, mathematical problem solving, and student creation in primary Mathematics. MEDS provides a structured learning journey in which students engage with authentic mathematical challenges, plan solutions, design and build in Minecraft Education, collaborate with peers, and communicate their mathematical thinking through digital storytelling.

The session will also explore how Southeast Asia’s local culture and heritage can be used as meaningful contexts for mathematical challenges and creative Minecraft builds, making learning more relevant and connected to students’ lived experiences.

Participants will leave with a practical framework, classroom examples, and adaptable strategies for applying game-based digital storytelling across Mathematics and STEM contexts.

Participants should bring their own devices with Minecraft installed.
