Cyber safety for university leaders, staff and students

As Higher Education continues to embrace digital transformation, the role of educators in promoting cyber safety has never been more crucial. This session will empower attendees with the awareness, knowledge, and tools needed to create a culture of digital responsibility, not just for themselves, but for the students in their institution.

Educators are often the first line of defense in shaping students' online behavior. Yet many rely heavily on IT departments, leaving critical gaps in personal and professional cybersecurity practices. This session will highlight the importance of digital hygiene, recognising and avoiding scams, understanding privacy risks, and cultivating safe online habits.

The stakes are even higher with the rise of AI. Artificial intelligence is revolutionising education, but it also presents new threats: AI-generated phishing, social engineering, and even large-scale cyberattacks are now possible. If misused or poorly understood, AI tools can become gateways to data breaches and digital vulnerabilities. Educators must help students critically assess the digital tools they use by encouraging scepticism, vigilance, and ethical AI usage.
