Beyond the buzz: Practical AI for teaching and assessment in Higher Education

This interactive session, delivered by the Digital Education Council (DEC), is designed for faculty members and education leaders who are exploring how AI can be practically and ethically integrated into teaching and assessment. This session will provide both foundational understanding and hands-on design experience.

Drawing on DEC’s expertise, the session begins with a 15-minute presentation on how AI is transforming teaching in Higher Education. Participants will explore how AI can support course design, content generation,
student interaction, assessment, and grading — illustrated through real-world use cases.

Next, participants will take part in a 15-minute small group activity to design an AI-integrated assessment using sample course descriptions and learning outcomes. Each group will explore how AI can be meaningfully embedded in student tasks, while addressing alignment with learning goals and new evaluation challenges.

The session concludes with 15 minutes of group sharing, discussion, and Q&A. Participants will reflect on
how AI can apply to their own disciplines and share their experience of working AI.
