Dr Chai Xun Yu

Assistant Professor University of Nottingham Malaysia

Dr Chai Xun Yu is the Assistant Professor and Coordinator for MA education programmes at the University of Nottingham Malaysia. She holds a PhD from the University of Nottingham Malaysia, where she developed a taxonomic framework that serves as a tool for fostering creativity in problem solving in Higher Education.

She began her career as an English language teacher in an international school, where she developed a passion for creative teaching and learning. Before transitioning to Higher Education, she was involved in several funded education research projects aimed at developing and improving various aspects of education, including Higher Education development, evaluation of learning tools and their effectiveness.

In her current practice, she emphasises empowering students to connect and apply knowledge and skills from diverse subjects and disciplines through the implementation of integrated assessments and interdisciplinary teaching. Her innovations in teaching have led to her being nominated for the Lord Dearing Award, which recognises the outstanding achievements of University of Nottingham staff in enhancing student learning experiences.

She is currently leading a project aimed at providing creativity training to develop problem-solving competencies using GAI among Higher Education students across disciplines. The training is based on the taxonomic framework for creativity she developed, with the goal of providing students with a systematic guide to creatively solve real-life problems using GAI. Driven by a passion for and a commitment to innovation in education, Xun Yu is poised to make meaningful contributions to the field of creativity in education.
