How do we bridge the digital divide and make learning equitable for all?
The Powering Up Education Ministerial and Policy Leaders’ Roundtable hosted by Bett Asia, a member of the UNESCO Global Education Coalition in partnership with the Ministry of Education Malaysia and UK Department for Business and Trade, convened on 1st October 2024 in Kuala Lumpur. This roundtable brought together 32 experts from Ministries of Education and Higher Education from South-East Asia, the Pacific and Europe, alongside policymakers, and senior leadership from educational institutions, international development organisations and the private sector.
The resulting whitepaper shares their insights on how to deliver inclusive digital transformation in education, guided by UNESCO’s Six Pillars Framework. It highlights regional success stories such as Malaysia’s National Digital Education Policy and Indonesia’s Merdeka Belajar initiative – showing how collaboration, strong leadership, and digital capacity building are driving real change.
Key themes explored include:
-
Student voice in digital transformation – ensuring learners are central to technology adoption.
-
Teacher support and leadership – building digital competencies for sustainable change.
-
Collaboration beyond borders – sharing best practice to tackle inequality and access challenges.
Whether you’re an educator, policymaker, or EdTech innovator, these insights offer practical guidance for building future-ready, inclusive education systems.
