Empowering teacher leadership: Shaping futures, one step at a time

In every school, teachers play a vital role not just in delivering lessons, but in shaping the culture, driving improvement, and inspiring their peers. Leadership is not confined to those with formal titles—it is a responsibility and mindset that every educator can and should embody.

In this session, Samuel Isaiah, Executive Director of PEMIMPIN, invites teachers and education leaders to reimagine leadership as something within reach for all educators. Drawing from his experiences working alongside teachers across Malaysia, Sam will share powerful ground-up stories that highlight how teachers who take small, purposeful steps can spark meaningful change in their schools and beyond.

This session will:

  • Inspire teachers and everyone to see themselves as leaders who can make a difference within their classrooms, schools, and communities.

  • Challenge the notion that leadership is tied to position, showing instead how leadership is cultivated through action, collaboration, and influence.

  • Provide on-the-ground evidence of effective leadership in schools, including examples of creating spaces where teachers have successfully led initiatives, mentored peers, and driven innovation that improved student outcomes.

  • Encourage collective movement forward, where many small steps taken by teachers can create significant, lasting impact on students and school culture.
