Here at Bett Asia we are passionate about Education and Technology. We conduct in-depth research throughout the year to keep ourselves up to date with developments across the region and ensure we’re providing the most relevant content at Bett Asia 2018. Here are some of the regional insights we’ve discovered this week:

Global

Mastercard has set a goal to reach 200,000 girls aged 10-13 around the world with its Girls4Tech programme by 2020. They announced this as they kicked off a global marathon of STEM workshops in celebration of International Day of the Girl. Following its debut in China and Singapore in 2016, Girls4Tech has returned for the 2nd in renewed partnerships with the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship, Shanghai Be Better Education and the Singapore Committee for UN Women. The program is expected to benefit 30,000 girls across classrooms in China and 7,500 girls in Singapore in the 2017-2018 school year. Read more here 

Cambodia

The government plans to extend the retirement age for teachers by 5 years to 65 years old in order to maintain a stable number of teachers. Lack of teachers means that classrooms currently have 70 students instead of 30. Salaries have been increased slightly from $240 (minimum wage) to $250/month but teachers have submitted a petition to the MOE complaining that it’s not enough to keep teachers in the profession. Indonesia & Laos

Indonesia has signed a MoU with the Islamic World Science Citation Database (ISC) in Iran to increase scientific and research cooperation.

Their key objectives include:

• encouraging cooperation and exchange of experiences in the management of scientific research publications in areas of mutual interest
• encouraging and facilitating collaboration between the two sides’ research institutes and organizations to enhance the international visibility of scientific publications
• an increase in the exchange of scientists, specialists, teachers and students of research institutes and organizations between the two countries Read more here

Indonesia & Laos have signed a MoU on Education to carry out student exchange programmes at both primary and university levels. The President of Indonesia said: "Indonesia is always committed to supporting Laos in capacity building. We welcome Laotian students who want to pursue their higher education in Indonesia."
