HE Dr Vathana Sann

Under Secretary of State Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport of Cambodia

HE Dr Vathana Sann was nominated as Under-Secretary of State, Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport in 2018, overseeing the science and research and digital education portfolio and the school feeding program. He manages the Secretariat for Center for Digital and Distance Education (CDDE), and the Research Creativity and Innovation Fund (RCI-Fund) of the Ministry. 

From 2008 - 2016, he was the Deputy Secretary General of the Council for Agricultural and Rural Development, Council of Ministers. He was responsible for the development of the first National Social Protection Strategy. From 2017 - 2018, he was assigned into the newly established National Social Protection Council, under the Ministry of Economics and Finance, involved in the development and implementation of the National Social Protection Policy Framework. He began his civil service with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery in 2006 as the Coordinator of PhD and MSc Program of Royal University of Agriculture. In the field of agriculture education, he is a researcher and a lecturer in animal science.

Born and raised in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Vathana Sann received BSc in Animal Sciences from Royal University of Agriculture, Cambodia in 2002 and he continued his study at Georg-August University Goettingen and received his MSc in Tropical Agriculture in 2003 and PhD in International Agriculture in 2006.
