Deputy Director, Programme and Development Southeast Asia Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) Secretariat

John Arnold Siena served nearly seven years as Director IV of the National Educators Academy of the Philippines, which is tasked to ensure that the teaching and non-teaching personnel of the Philippine Department of Education receive relevant professional development to improve the delivery of basic education services. In this capacity, he led the implementation of the Learning Delivery Modalities Courses to safeguard learning continuity within the basic education system during the 2020 pandemic.

As the current Deputy Director for Programme and Development of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) Secretariat, Mr. Siena oversees the development and implementation of initiatives to capacitate the SEAMEO Member Countries in promoting education, science, and culture.

However, with the Asia-Pacific region accounting for most of the world’s new disaster and climate-related displacements – which poses significant barriers to the right to education - what role can educators and school communities play?

Drawing on insight into region-wide policy development and practices within schools, this panel discussion will explore solutions-led approaches to ensuring climate-resilience across school communities, considering the role of technology, and developing and implementing a climate change curriculum relevant to specific localities and cultures.
