School closures have significantly hindered pre-pandemic efforts and initiatives to improve access to education across Asia. A recent report by UNICEF and UNESCO estimated that at least 28 percent, or 220 million pre-primary to upper secondary students in the region, are not being reached, with marginalised, hard-to-reach students from rural settings being disproportionately affected.
