Must-attend education sessions at Bett Asia 2020

Returning for its sixth year in March 2020, Bett Asia brings together the educators and learners shaping the EdTech space all under one roof at the Grand Hyatt in Kuala Lumpur. With thousands of attendees descending on the venue, we have a packed line-up of keynotes, guest talks and workshops to keep you busy over the two-day event. While each content session is invaluable, we wanted to pick out a handful of sessions that are not-to-be missed. Calendar at the ready? Here are the top three picks for each day of Bett Asia 2020.

Wednesday 4th March

1. Panel: Asia 4.0 The sweeping digital age and how we can ensure our learners are ready for the jobs that do not exist, 9.00am to 9.45am By 2030, it’s forecast that the job market will have changed beyond recognition. Within Asia-Pacific education systems the importance of digital skills cannot be underestimated, yet major gaps still exist. This session will look at what countries in the region are doing in order to ensure students are prepared for this new digital age.
Chair: Caroline Wright, Director General, BESA
Speakers: Dr Habibah Binto Abdul Rahim, Director-General, Ministry of Education (Malaysia), Dr Khunying Kalaya Sophonpanich, Deputy Minister of Education, Task-oriented Deputy Leader of Democrat Party and former Minister of Science and Technology (Thailand), Surina Shukri, CEO, Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation.

2. Children can only aspire to what they know exists. Building better social mobility, 10.30am to 11.05am It’s clear from global research by KidZania and OECD that social mobility is a mixed success story at best, with experiences outside of school influencing individual children’s progress. This session looks at why we must purposefully connect, while also differentiating between, direct teaching in schools and experiential learning to allow children to find purpose and be meaningful contributors to social mobility.
Speaker: Dr Ger Graus, Global Director of Education, KidZania

3. Integrating technology authentically and purposefully to improve student learning in a K12 setting Bring your curriculum to life and engage students in ways that you didn’t think were possible. Speaker and global EdTech consultant Craig Kemp will help you understand your ‘why’, ‘how’ and ‘what’ for integrating technology in your K12 classroom with success.
Speaker: Craig Kemp, Owner and EdTech Consultant, Ignite EdTech

2. High Performance Learning, 2.55pm to 3.25pm We need to develop the thinking competencies associated with success (and previously attributed only to ‘Gifted and Talented’ students) to transform educational outcomes.
